Easter Kids' Craft: Put Your Stale Peeps to Good Use!

Easter peeps have to be one of my favorite holiday treats! When your overstock of marshmallow peeps goes stale you can transform the sugary sweet treat into a craft material. I know, I know -- some of you love the taste of stale marshmallows (I have a friend who would purposefully let her peeps go stale). But, if the Easter bunny accidently got into the goodies, and may have left the plastic wrap open -- the kiddos can use up the leftovers in this super-fun project!

Do you have piles and piles of Easter or spring themed pictures, drawings and other artwork that your kids have made throughout the years? Instead of letting it sit in a drawer or plainly pinning it to the fridge with a magnet, frame it with a sweet peep craft.

Here's What You'll Need:

Easter peeps (preferably already stale)
Clear drying school glue
Cardstock paper (or cardboard if your cardstock isn't thick enough to support the weight of the peeps)
Kids' safety scissors
Tempera paints
Thin paintbrush
Clear tape

Here's What To Do:

Poke the scissors through the center of the paper (you may need to help your child with this step) and cut up towards one of the ends. Stop before you get to the edge -- about two inches in.
Cut a window in the center of the paper. Your child can cut a standard rectangle shape or make a lumpy, bumpy cloud-like design.
Paint the peeps. Give your child a few different colors of tempera and let her have free reign to make polka dots, stripes or even finger prints on the marshmallow chicks. Let the paint dry.
Coat the painted peeps with a layer of clear school glue. This will help to seal in the sugar and make the chicks shine.
Have your child position the painted peeps on the paper frame.
Glue the peeps to the frame.
Tape your little artist's artwork to the back of the frame to display!
