House Painting Art for Kids

You’re painting the house and the kids are bored, bored, bored. While they might not be quite ready to grab a brush and do the trim work for you, they can try out their own pint-sized painting activity. Instead of handing over a gallon of that perfect (and perfectly expensive) hue that you had expertly mixed, break out the temperas. Make this artsy adventure different than rest by giving your child the same tools that you’re using.

I bought a few house painting brushes and a mini-roller (look for rollers that are for trim or edging work) at the hardware store for under $5 total.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

 

·        House painting brushes and rollers- Choose different sizes or different textures of rollers.

·        Tempera paints

·        A house painting tray

·        Paper

Here’s What to Do:

1.     Pour the tempera paint into the tray. Use one color per tray or have your child mix a few as you pour them in. For ease of clean up, cover the tray with kitchen foil first.

2.     Give your child her choice of “real” house painting tools. Set out different sizes of brushes and rollers.

3.     Paint! Let your child explore with the brushes and rollers, making different textures. Don’t let her worry about painting “something”. Instead go for a more abstract look.
